1.Background Information on Shanghai 2010 Expo

It is not a trade show, potential business partners will not be walking past your stand where you can meet and hand out business cards.

It's a show for consumers, they are expecting 70million visitors with 40,000 visitors a day to NZ Pavilion - prepare yourself for crowds.

There are over 200 countries participating, investing million in their stands.

2. NZ Pavilion Update

New Zealand pavilion has already been named a "must see" in Chinese media. To see a 3D impression of the pavilion watch the video to the right of this article - 3news article

The government's reasoning for investing $30million in the Expo is because of long term strategic positioning; exports to China have increased 60% last year and are now NZ's 2nd major exporting partner.

The pavilion has an open/closed/open area. In the meet & greet space there will be a 2000kg pounamu on display, 9m high wooden carving being created, 25 young NZ ambassadors that speak fluent Chinese interacting with the visitors. The guests then walk through to an inside area, a story is told through stunning imagery changing on high technology screens as the visitor walks through - illustrating a day in a life of a New Zealand family, A southerly wind blows through every 3mins as the visitors are walking through and they wind themselves up the pavilion and come out on top with a native NZ garden and hot pool.

NZTE's feedback from Aichi Expo is that hosting is very successful way to conduct business - taking visitors away from the manic crowds at the expo, take them through the pavilion, then take them away to a quiet environment, them give them time to go out and explore the other pavilions befor coming back for more hosting.

3. Who Should Attend Shanghai 2010 Expo from Hawke's Bay?

There is no value in attending the show without pre establishing meeting now. Chinese businesses are being approached by partners' potential partners all over the world - Hawke's Bay businesses need to set up meetings now for August.

If you require NZTE assistance in setting up meetings - matching businesses to businesses, you need to start doing this now as they are going to get inundated with requests from all over NZ, small office in China. Contact Liz now to start the process - NZTE are going to be very targeted in this approach - they do not wish to waste making matches that are not ideal fits so for companies that require assistance in meeting new potential clients - contact us now to introduce you to the contacts at NZTE.

Chinese businesses need time to arrange their travel arrangement/permissions internally to be hosted at the Expo, need to allocate time to this in your planning.
