1/March/2010
Shanghai
Expo
· It is not a trade
show, so potential business partners will not be walking past your stand where
you can meet and hand out business cards. It’s a show for consumers where they
are expecting 70million visitors to experience and enjoy all the
pavilions.
· There are over 200
countries participating, investing millions in their
stands.
NZ Pavilion
· New Zealand Pavilion
has already been named a ‘must see’ in Chinese media which is fantastic. For
more information on the pavilion (Link
to NZTE Shanghai Page). To see a 3d impression of the pavilion watch the
video to the right of this article - 3news
article
· The government's reasoning for investing $30million in the expo is
because of long term strategic positioning, exports to China have increased 60%
last year and is now our 2nd major exporting
partner.
· The pavilion has an
open area where there will be a 2000kg pounamu on show, 9m wooden carving taking
place, 25 young NZ ambassadors that speak fluent Chinese interacting with the
visitors. The guests then walk through to an inside area, a story is told from stunning imagery changing through high technology as they walk through –
illustrating a day in a life of a New Zealand family. A southerly wind blows through every 3mins as
the guests are walking through and they wind themselves up the pavilion and come
out on top with a native NZ garden and hot pool.
· The aim is that every
visitor will leave the pavilion thinking NZ is a stunning place to visit –
clean/green, very technically savvy, innovative people and a great place to do
business.
· Hosting – the way
businesses will leverage off the pavilion is there is a large hosting VIP room
upstairs, with private access that can accommodate 110 guests standing and 40
for formal seated functions. It’s got the latest presentation facilities to
present to the clients and Ruth Pretty showcasing the high quality NZ
food/wine.
· From Aichi Expo, NZTE learnt that the hosting is very successful as it’s a way to
host guests, away from the manic crowds at the expo, take them through the
pavilion, then break them away to a quiet environment, then give them time to go
out and explore the other pavilions before coming back for more hosting. To
host Chinese businesses, this is free for NZ businesses, funded by the
government.
Related to Hawke’s
Bay Businesses
· For Hawke’s Bay –
again its strategic positioning in the long term – China is growing at a rapid
rate and we do not want to miss out on any business opportunities here.
· This expo is best
suited to businesses already exporting to China – an opportunity to host their key
clients to strengthen relationships and host new potential buyers. Local
businesses here have already set up meetings with established clients and have
their distributors sourcing other potential clients for them to further work
with China.
· This expo is also for
those that have within their strategic plans to start exporting to China, it’s
working with NZTE and any contacts you may have already in market now to match
business to business and set up meetings during the week. There is no value in
a business going to the expo without pre established meetings as you will not
meet business partners walking past. This is where NZTE is assisting but as you
can imagine a lot of requests will start coming in for them to establish
targeted connections so if you are interested in going – making contact now with
NZTE is definitely advised.
Venture Hawke’s
Bay & Export Hawke's Bay
We are assisting with
the logistics to make it easier for all businesses to go up into market, we have
booked out Hawke’s Bay Week (13th – 18th August) for the
sectors so that we make impact by going as one. We are managing the travel
component, working with the sole preferred wholesaler to the expo to ensure
businesses are getting the best deal. We are going up as a delegation as China
is very much a place that politicians/government opens doors for trade
relations. We are coordinating the marketing/press relations aspects – working on
a DVD to give an potential overview of Hawke's Bay that we can play
looped upstairs in the hosting area over that week. Downstairs – any branding
for the region is prohibited is this is very much NZ promotion only.
Business to business
matching falls under NZTE who are in market and specialise in that
area.
